That's right Maia, they are but to a lessor degree or as strong as one wants to prescribe. Or take...usually though, overdosing of them cause vomiting and death from strangling-not the drugs themselves. Elvis according to his autopsy had only the prescribed amount of those in his system...he was cutting back, proud of himself for doing so and that's why he was awake, sitting in the bathroom reading. I wonder about them saying he was on the stool...he had a chair in there and put his feet on the stool lid-I know, I've talked to him on the phone when that was what he was doing. Feet on the stool lid, kicked back in his chair reading and talking on the phone. They said his pants were pulled down...they also say he was wearing two colors of pjs and that seemed odd to me---he had matching sets and liked to wear them that way-unless Ginger was sleeping in one of the tops so he mixed them??? She said she was wearing a night gown when she found him...then it was said that Joe, Charlie and I think one of the Stanleys SAY they found him!!! Everyone found him-but none of them can say exactly where he was and what he had been doing. It was even said that "they" took out the porno books he was reading!!!! and replaced them with the new book Larry had given him. Elvis wouldn't have had porno books in his bathroom laying about for his little girl to find! No way! And besides that, having a new interesting book would have peaked his curiosity and of course he'd be reading it in there-Ginger didn't like the light left on when she tried to sleep-she hated sleeping in the daytime instead of at night...her sister said that in an interview done shortly after and Ginger left Graceland, taking her things and a few others...which were returned as they were taken by mistake... Under the circumstances of his death, he might have been placed there-we don't know. No one does but those involved if there were some type of cover up. If so, it was to protect the living....not the one already dead...That I can believe....And I don't think for one minute he took anything to kill himself with... However if someone had given him a drug while he was asleep via through an enema...that wouldn't have shown up in his stomach, intestines or possibly in his blood. But they did test his liver tissue...to be sure of the drugs in his system and I guess didn't get anything but comformation of what he had prescribed. Humor has it that Marilyn Monroe might have been given that kind of enema...she was not tested like they could do for Elvis
at the time of her death. Elvis, by the way, NEVER did believe she killed herself-having a new movie deal, and looking so good with good prospects ahead. He thought it was murder and that it had something to do with the mafia and the Kennedys. He is most likely correct.
He also did not believe that his friend Nick Adams killed himself. He said that Nick had a suitcase full of cash, mud on his pant legs and shoes and under his finger nails and that he had died from a dose of fermaldehyde which is impossible to swallow in straight form as it was. They give that to people for alcoholic addiction but in very tiny amounts. Nick had ingested a lot -the fact he had some for allcohol addiction and was on the wagon was what was used as "fact" for ingesting it. However Elvis said the bottle Nick had was nearly full-not enough out of it to kill anyone and he had much more than that in his stomach....there was no glass found where he might have drank it. His stomach had nothing else in it-but the drug, and there was nothing that showed he had swallowed any-it would have "stuck shut his throat and he wouldn't be able to swallow or breathe. However, Nick had died but not strangled-nor was his tounge damaged from the amount of the drug in his stomach.
His esopogus was not damaged either. So Elvis thought that someone had forced him to drink it by putting a tube into his stomach against his will, that he had been trying to "pay of a debt" and had asked Elvis for money.(Elvis did not say he gave it to him.) and that Nick had ran for his life, maybe trying to get across the mountain and golf course to Elvis' house for help...or whatever. But he said, "Nick did not kill himself-he had some help with that 'n somebody cleaned up afterward 'n got rid of the evidence." He said that Nick told him he had some new prospects for flims and maybe a tv show from it and he was excited about it...that just a few days before he was found, by an annoymous phone call. When Marilyn died Elvis was talking to me, someone came in to tell him and Elvis was talking to him saying, "No...No she didn't! No she wouldn't do that-not now!" And he was crying for her when he said to me, "Can't talk now-give me a few minutes." and hung up. He said the same pretty much of Nick-he wouldn't have done that-not now! Elvis knew about a lot of things that went on under the rug in Hollywood... first hand knowledge of such things and I believe he was right on both counts.
None of us will ever know unless we become "stars" big enough to "count" up there and over there and down there too. Certain crimes are in pockets everywhere.wjh
