Hi Jess, I too thought Larry's book was very insightful and that he tried very hard to put Elvis in "living form" into the pages of his book, including some of the favorite books, passages etc: and did so succesfully, relating how he saw Elvis as he read and grew through and with those books help. Larry gave him such a unique gift, coming into his life, bringing him the "light". Elvis said, "these types of books, authors, (who are) inspired by ancient minds as well as present, are similar to coming up on a source of light when traveling a dark road". I hope I am recalling his exact words correctly- mainly I recall the hushed tone of voice, and also how much it meant to him to have access to more books and Larry in his life again... this was after Larry returned once more "to the fold" after being "dismissed" by the Col. with the help of his "merry elves" etc:. I don't know Larry well, but have met him in years past (after Elvis left us), he truly is a very honest hearted and sincere gentleman, one of the few that tried to be helpful and understood the spiritual side and nature of Elvis Presley the man, more than the image. As Elvis said, "the image is one thing, the man another---". Thanks for posting from his book here, I'm sure there will be others who will appreciate and perhaps even, suddenly become aware that Elvis was a litte more than "just a singer". wjh

The word "Light" is something I use in my email address, I have forever! I was reading in Larry's book, that words followed Elvis, as well as numbers. I think the world of Larry, (as I do you, Wanda). I feel that he is a gentleman, too. I would love to hear more views, or comments, as well? I really appreciate your time, dearest Wanda, thank you so much. Take care, Kimmi

I will always believe that Elvis sought his spiritual answers from persons outside of any organized church because in his own words he stated that....."those old men get up and shout that anyone not saved was going with Satan and that the old men scared more people away from the One above because of how they used the Bible." Elvis did not need to go to church to have the loving and generous soul and heart that he did. He knew what was right and he knew 'the old men' were not right in how they presented the words of the One above. I enjoyed the book very much and now we are just waiting on Wanda to have time to get hers finished!! 73smile

In follow up to Marjorie’s recent comments, I would just like to add my thoughts. I think Elvis looked for truth wherever he could find it, be in the church system or outside of it. When it comes to the church he grew up in, he seems to have tossed out what he didn’t agree with and kept what he did agree with. During Elvis’ early days his church was quite rigid in some things, such as not being able to see movies, not wearing make-up etc. Yet at the same time, there was a complete freedom in moving with the music. Plus there was the belief that God’s healing power resided within individuals so that one could lay hands on others and expect healing. And finally the church believed the Bible was the inspired word of God. Clearly the latter three influenced Elvis & he agreed with, keeping close to his heart, as evidenced with his moving to the music, reports from some close to him of actual healings taking place after Elvis laid hands on them, and Elvis’ serious interest in the Bible. However, even with the Bible, Elvis was inclined to read it himself and come up with his own interpretations. He didn’t just merely follow others opinions, though there were some preachers he did respect & enjoy listening to. We know how much he liked the Reverend Rex Humbard for instance.
